Ephesians 5:6-10
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
Today’s verse the apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of discernment and warns against deception.
He urges believers not to be partners with those who engage in disobedient and deceptive practices, emphasizing the seriousness of such actions in the eyes of God.
The passage then contrasts the former state of believers, characterized by darkness, with their present identity as children of light in the Lord.
The call is to live in a manner consistent with this new identity. The “fruit of the light” is described as goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Believers are encouraged to discern what pleases the Lord and to actively pursue a life that aligns with the values of God’s kingdom.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking understanding and wisdom.
In a world filled with deception, help us to be discerning and vigilant, not allowing ourselves to be misled by empty words that lead to disobedience.
Lord, may we not be partners with actions and attitudes that go against your will. Empower us to stand firm in the truth of your Word and to distance ourselves from practices that displease you. Grant us discernment to recognize and reject deceitful influences that may attempt to lead us astray.
We thank you, Lord, for the transformation that has taken place in our lives. As children of light, may our actions bear witness to the goodness, righteousness, and truth that flow from your presence within us. Guide us in understanding what pleases you, and may our lives be a reflection of your glory.
In the name of Jesus, our Light and Savior, we pray. Amen.
